SOFTBALL, 1980-83
From her catcher position, Mary Ross anchored the high caliber softball teams from early in Head Coach Teri Mariani’s career. Ross was a leader for the teams that placed fourth, seventh, and fourth nationally in successive seasons. Twice Ross led the Vikings in runs batted in and her .323 batting average led the 1983 team.Â
While ranking among PSU’s best all-time hitters, she was perhaps best known for her defensive abilities. In 1982 Ross was named an NCAA Division II All-American. She showed remarkable endurance, never missing a game despite playing arguably the most rigorous position on the diamond.Â
