Curtis Delgardo set 15 Portland State records during his career, including marks for rushing yards in a game, season and career, and touchdowns scored. He was a three-time All-Western Football Conference selection and three time WFC rushing leader. Delgardo was the 1988 WFC Player of the Year and West Region Player of the Year. He played a vital role in leading the Vikings to the NCAA II National Championship game in 1987 and 1988. Though diminutive and 5-foot-6, the aptly nicknamed “Smurf” completed his career with 4,178 rushing yards, 6,942 all-purpose yards, and 54 touchdowns and he set marks for yard per carry average for a season (7.2) and a career (5.9). Twenty times he rushed for more than 100 yards in a game for the Vikings.
