CHENEY, Wash./LEWISTON, Idaho - The Portland State men's tennis team closed its 2011 season at Eastern Washington and Lewis-Clark State this weekend and finished with losses to both teams. The Vikings close their season with an overall record of 5-13, 2-6 in Big Sky play.

PSU was unable to gain any singles victories against the Eagles on Friday, falling 7-0, but were able to secure a win at No. 1 doubles with Chris Rice and Mitch Somach making their paired debut. Rice and Somach took the match in a tiebreaker 8-7 (11-9). Alex VanDerschelden and Vetu Mam were just a hair short of a tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point and fell 8-6 at No. 2.

Against the Warriors, the bottom of the doubles lineup came through and nearly secured an early 1-0 lead for the team, but, No. 2 Matt Erickson and Nick Fracchia, and No. 3 Jeff Cero and Zach Lubek, respectively fell 8-5 and 8-6.

Erickson and Fracchia redeemed themselves in singles, gaining the Vikings victories in the match. Erickson, at No. 3 for Somach whowas bumped up to No. 2, grinded out a win with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Fracchia won his match in similar fashion, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
