PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland State men's tennis team got back on the good foot this weekend as it earned a pair of 7-0 wins, first defeating Lewis & Clark and finally beating Gonzaga. The team elevates its season record to 2-3.

Two Vikings won their first career duel matches, transfers Roman Margoulis and Mitch Somach, against the Pios and Zags. Somach played at No. 1 against Lewis & Clark to win 6-3, 6-3 and won at No. 3 versus Gonzaga with 7-5, 6-7(6), 1 (10-5).

Margoulis played his matches at No. 2 and No.4 over weekend, winning his first match against Quinn Roth-Carter of Lewis & Clark, 6-1, 6-0. Like Somach against Gonzaga, Margoulis battled to three sets with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.

All told against Lewis & Clark, the Vikings only dropped 10 games in singles and doubles play combined, an impressive feat no matter the level of competition.

The Viks will open its Big Sky season Thursday Feb. 10 against preseason favorite Sacramento State and follow up with a contest against SeattleU on the 12th.
