HEAD COACH CHRIS FISK SAYS
ON HIS FIRST RECRUITING CLASS AT PORTLAND STATE: "It was extremely rewarding to see how easy it was to recruit to the city of Portland and specifically Portland State University's campus. That was really an unknown when I took the job here. But the staff worked as hard as any staff I have been a part of ever since the day we got here."
"We were basically recruiting on four groups simultaneously: the winter quarter transfer group, spring quarter transfers, the 2026 freshman class and the start of the 2027 recruiting season – along with getting back to work with our current roster. The staff has gone above and beyond to put together an outstanding first class for Portland State."
ON PRIORITIES TO BUILD HIS PROGRAM: "We really needed a well-rounded class in all three groups – winter and spring transfers and the high school group."
"We always prioritize from the line of scrimmage and building out from there. So, making sure the quarterback position was number one priority, we got the top freshman quarterback we went after. Then we worked through the defensive and offensive lines to make sure the line of scrimmage was exactly where we want it for the future of the program. I feel like we also got some immediate attention at the line of scrimmage in our transfer group. I am extremely thrilled with our tight ends. We went hard after that group. And then we worked at the skill positions. The number one attribute we looked for was speed at the skill positions and we were able to find that."
ON WHO WILL PLAY: "There are a few freshman I can see coming in and playing right away and competing for playing time in their first year. There is no crystal ball in it, but they will compete with every else on the roster to make the active roster."
"I think all of the transfers we brought in can have an immediate impact on the roster, whether it is starting or adding depth to the position group. And we are need of both."
ON RECRUITING FOR THE BIG SKY CONFERENCE: "You are looking for balance in recruiting every year in terms of your freshman class. Then you look for specific needs out of the portal or junior college."
"The Big Sky over the past decade has really transformed to a "line of scrimmage conference" when you look at past conference champions, and especially Montana State this year going on to win the whole thing. You better be able to win the line of scrimmage, win in the run game and rush the passer, defensively. The most consistent teams over time have done those things."
ON HIS 2026 RECRUITING CLASS: "The biggest thing we want people to know about this group is, it is local kids first. We have 11 Oregon kids on this list and we worked out from there. We want to bring back pride the program and playing at the only FCS program in the state of Oregon."
"Our overall freshman GPA of 3.38 is extremely exciting and shows the intelligence of the student-athletes that will add value to the campus of Portland State, not only on the football field but off the football field. This is an extremely high character group with a lot of potential in front of them."

Tonight, Portland State Football invites donors, alumni, and fans to joinÂ
Head Coach Chris Fisk, General Manager Rashad Floyd, and the Portland State Football coaching staff forÂ
National Signing Day, as we officially introduce the first recruiting class of theÂ
Born for the Storm era. This is more than a signing celebration—it's a statement about where Portland State Football is headed. It's an opportunity to meet the newest Vikings, build meaningful connections with the next generation of our program, and strengthen the bond between this team and the city it represents. Portland hasÂ
one Division I college football program, and that program isÂ
Portland State. As we move forward, we are committed to being the team of the city—one that Portland rallies behind, takes pride in, and stands with. The event will take placeÂ
from 5:00–7:00 PM at Besaw's Restaurant in NW Portland, and we look forward to bringing the Portland State community together as we continue building the future of Viking Football. Besaw's is located at 1545 NW 21
st Avenue in Portland.
