FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. —
The Portland State men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Northern Arizona Sunday at Continental Country Club, closing a record season for the Vikings in 2015.

The Vikings end their 2015 campaign at 7-12 overall and 4-7 in Big Sky play, tying the program record for Big Sky wins in a single season. Sophomore Ethan Lopez also finished the season with a program-record seven Big Sky wins this season, while Lopez and senior Stuart Tierney finished tied for second and fourth on the single-season wins list with 11 and 10 singles wins, respectively.

The Vikings also recorded their first-ever wins over historic Big Sky powers Montana and Sacramento State this season, the latter of which kicked off a two-match winning streak the Vikings took into the match against the Lumberjacks (9-12, 7-4 Big Sky).

The Lumberjacks snapped that streak with their win Sunday, though the Vikings gave them a run for their money in singles.

Down 1-0 after dropping the doubles point, the Vikings came out strong in singles, winning the first set in four of the six singles matches, including at the top three spots in the lineup. Tierney claimed an early lead in his match against the Lumberjacks' Jordan Gobatie at line one, taking the first set off Gobatie, 6-4. Gobatie responded with a tight, 7-5 win in the second set, however, and then bested Tierney in a match tiebreaker to claim the match, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6).

Lopez, meanwhile, staked out an early lead in his match against Alexandre Locci at line two, beating Locci in the first set, 6-3. Locci came back firing after that, however, beating Lopez 6-3 and 6-4 in the second and third sets, respectively.

Junior Wil Cochrane also claimed an early lead against the Lumberjacks' Kester Black at line three, only to see his lead evaporate over the second and third sets. Cochrane beat Black 6-3 in the first set, but Black flipped a switch after that, beating Cochrane 6-0 and 6-2 in the second and third sets to win the match.

Junior Matt Pronesti held onto his early lead for the Vikings at line six, however, , as he cruised past the Lumberjacks' Adi Zilberstein in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3. The win gives Pronesti a two-match winning streak to end the season, as the junior reversed a tough latter half of the season on the final weekend of the regular season, snapping a nine-match losing streak with his two wins to end the season.

Pronesti's win also gave the Vikings hope at 3-1 down in the dual, but the Lumberjacks' comebacks at the top three positions all followed, giving Northern Arizona the 6-1 win.
