LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Portland State men's tennis team dropped the second of its three-match series at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas Tuesday, falling 6-1 to Grand Canyon University.
 
The Lopes (8-7) won all three matches against the Vikings (5-9) in doubles, and then won five of their six singles matches in straight sets.
 
Senior Stuart Tierney pulled out the one win for the Vikings, as he came back from a 4-0 deficit in the first set of his match against Grand Canyon's Alexander Roggenkamp at line two. Tierney came all the way back to take the first set into a tiebreaker, where he pulled out a marathon, 12-10 decision to take the one-set lead. Tierney and Roggenkamp then played another close set in the second, but Tierney pulled it out to take the match 7-6 (10), 6-4.
 
Tierney's win improves his record at line two to 5-1 this season, and gives the senior his second straight win, as well as his seventh win in his last nine matches.
 
Additionally, Tierney now has seven wins overall during the dual season, moving him into a tie for the team lead with junior Wil Cochrane and sophomore Ethan Lopez.
 
The Vikings as a team, meanwhile, will hope to get back in the win column as they round out their Las Vegas road trip with a match against Seattle Wednesday. The Vikings will face the Redhawks at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Darling Tennis Center, where they will look to snap a five-match losing streak.
