Pocatello, ID - Tomas Sanchez hit a 15-foot jump shot with six seconds left to give Idaho State a 72-71 win over Portland State in the final game of the season for both teams at Holt Arena.

The teams had gone back-and-forth over the closing moments before Sanchez grabbed an offensive rebound and buried the shot from the right wing. Portland State raced the ball up court, but was unable to get off a good shot at the buzzer.

With the loss, Portland State ended the season on a four-game losing streak and with an 8-20 record. Idaho State stopped its own five-game losing streak to go 6-24 on the year. Both teams finished Big Sky Conference schedule at 5-15.

Gary Winston led five Vikings in double figures with 14 points. He hit 5-10 from the field, 3-5 from three-point range and 1-2 at the line. Lateef McMullan scored 13 points, Aaron Moore had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Renado Parker and Dre Winston Jr. each scored 10 points.

Chris Hansen led four Bengals in double figures with a game-high 16 points.

The Vikings maintained the lead throughout the first half and led 35-32 at the break.

Idaho State took the lead four minutes into the second half, 41-39, on a layup by Nnamdi Ezenwa. The Bengals led for the next 10 minutes, but the Vikings kept it close.

A McMullan three-pointer tied it at 60-60 with 5:59 to go. The teams traded baskets the next two minutes, then McMullan hit another three with 3:53 to go and the Vikings were ahead 67-64.

Moore's two free throws with 1:27 to play gave the Viking a 71-68 lead. Andre Hatchett then hit a short jumper for the Bengals at the 1:08 mark to close it to 71-70.

PSU missed on its next possession, but got the offensive rebound. Then, Dre Winston Jr. was fouled with 19.8 seconds to go. He missed the front end of the one-and-one and Idaho State rebounded. After an initial ISU miss shot, Sanchez rebounded and hit a 15-foot jumper with six seconds to play.

The Vikings made 27-53 field goals for a .509 mark, and 7-16 from three-point range, but only 10-19 at the free throw line.

Idaho State made 31-67 from the field (.463), 6-18 from three-point range and only 4-9 at the line. However, the Bengals made the difference on the boards, out-rebounding the Vikings, 43-28, including 18 offensive rebounds. That included the big offensive board at the end by Sanchez.

"That just sums up the game. We didn't make a free throw late and gave up an offensive rebound at the end," said Viking Head Coach Tyler Geving. "Our defense wasn't bad, but we gave up too many offensive rebounds."

GAME NOTES: The Vikings missed senior guard Michael Harthun once again. Harthun missed the final two games of the season with a knee injury… Dre Winston Jr. had a career-high eight rebounds by halftime… Michael Harvey scored eight points on 4-4 from the field for the Vikings… PSU was 0-14 on the road, matching the school record for road futility set in 2002-03 (also 0-14).
