Jaylin Henderson Signs Professional Contract with Köping Stars in Sweden

PORTLAND, Ore. — Jaylin Henderson will trade one pair of Viking horns for another. Henderson, who led the Portland State men's basketball team to its first Big Sky regular-season title in 18 years this past spring, signed a professional contract over the weekend with the Köping Stars in Sweden.

The Scandinavian setting should suit Henderson given his standout final season for the Portland State Vikings. Known for his highlight-reel dunks – his two back-to-back against Sacramento State this past season are among the best Viking Pavilion has ever seen – Henderson was a complete player for the Vikings as a fifth-year senior. He averaged 18.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. His 18.2 points ranked him fourth in the Big Sky Conference in scoring while he was second in both assists and steals.

Henderson scored in double figures in 28 of the team's 31 games, while he scored 20+ points 14 times, including two 30-point games. One of his two 30-point games in the Vikings' conference opener at Weber State where he set a career high with 34 points, 15 of which came over the final six minutes of the game between regulation and overtime. Henderson hit the shot that sent the game to overtime, then scored 10 of the team's 19 points in the extra period.

He tortured Weber State again when the teams played at Viking Pavilion to cap the regular season. Henderson posted a near triple-double with 20 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals as the Vikings clinched the outright Big Sky title.

Henderson had been invited to pre-draft workouts with several NBA teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies. He'll instead start his professional career overseas playing for the Köping Stars in the Swedish Basketball League (SBL). Henderson will be reunited with his former Louisiana Tech teammate Tahlik Chavez at Köping.

The Köping Stars will play their first game on Sept. 24 against BC Luleå.
