Defending-Champion Vikings Release 32-Game Schedule Ahead of 2026-27 Season

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland State men's basketball team knows the path ahead of it to a second straight Big Sky regular-season title, as the Vikings announced their 2026-27 schedule Wednesday.

The Vikings will play their longest regular season in program history with a 32-game slate on tap. That includes a 20-game Big Sky Conference schedule with the addition of Southern Utah and Utah Tech to offset the departure of Sacramento State. All 11 Big Sky Conference teams will play a double round-robin schedule. The uneven number of teams means Northern Arizona will serve as the conference's "lone wolf" while Northern Colorado serves as the Vikings' travel partner.

The 20-game conference schedule means Big Sky play will start earlier than in recent years. The Vikings will open Big Sky play at home against Eastern Washington and Idaho on Dec. 3 and 5, respectively. They'll return to non-conference play over the next three weeks, before resuming conference play over the same nine-week stretch as previous seasons between late December and late February.

Non-conference play opens for the Vikings on Nov. 3 when they host Lewis & Clark at Viking Pavilion. A four-game road trip follows as the Vikings play at Seattle U (Nov. 7), Colorado State (Nov. 11), San Francisco (Nov. 14) and Saint Mary's (Nov. 16). The Vikings return for back-to-back home games against Northwest Indian College (Nov. 19) and Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 22), before hitting the road again for games at UC Riverside (Nov. 25) and Southern Illinois (Nov. 28) over Thanksgiving week.

The conference opening weekend against Eastern Washington and Idaho kicks off a four-game home stand. After the Big Sky games, the Vikings host Evergreen (Dec. 8) and George Fox (Dec. 12). They'll then close out non-conference play with an in-state game against Oregon down in Eugene on Dec. 20.

Conference play resumes with four straight road games for the Vikings at Montana State (Dec. 31), Montana (Jan. 2), Utah Tech (Jan. 7) and Southern Utah (Jan. 9). They'll play their next three at home against Weber State (Jan. 14), Idaho State (Jan. 16) and Northern Arizona (Jan. 21), before returning to the road for three straight at Northern Colorado (Jan. 25), Idaho (Jan. 28) and Eastern Washington (Jan. 30).

The Vikings close Big Sky play with five of eight at Vikings Pavilion, starting with home games against Montana (Feb. 4) and Montana State (Feb. 6). They'll play Idaho State (Feb. 11) and Weber State (Feb. 13) on the road before returning home for games against Southern Utah (Feb. 18) and Utah Tech (Feb. 20).

A Monday night game at Northern Arizona on Feb. 22 closes out the road schedule, before the Vikings return home to cap the regular season against Northern Colorado on Feb. 27.

The Big Sky tournament starts March 5. That's a day earlier than previous seasons due to the expanded conference. The extra day is for a first-round match-up between the No. 10 and 11 seeds. The winner will then play the No. 9 seed on March 6, with the tournament following the same schedule as past years from there. The championship game is scheduled for March 10.
