Biography

        Became the Vikings shooting guard as a junior and shot .425 from three-point range... more shooting and scoring expected out of him this year as he takes on a primary offensive role... was a redshirt in 2010-11 after transferring from Washington State.

    COACH GEVING SAYS: “We need Mike to make jump shots. He needs to be a shooter and not hesitate. He should be more consistent and that will up his production this season.”

2011-12 • JUNIOR SEASON
    Had a solid season, starting 31 of 32 games... averaged 8.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and had 49 assists... shot an excellent percentage at .463 despite more than half his shots coming from three-point range... top three-point shooter on the team, making 48-113 for a .425 mark... ranks sixth in three-point percentage and 14th in three-pointers made in the Big Sky Conference... his three-point percentage also ranked seventh-best for a season in PSU history... led the team in scoring once and assists five times... had 11 double figure scoring games and one 20-point game... went for a career-high 22 points (9-11 FG, 1-3 3-pt, 3-5 FT) in a win over Cal State Bakersfield (12/15)... scored 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-5 3-pt) in a win over Maryland-Eastern Shore (11/27)... posted a Big Sky-best 18 points (4-9 FG, 3-5 3-pt, 7-9 FT) in a win at Northern Colorado (1/12)... scored 14 points (5-6 FG, 4-5 3-pt) in a season finale win over Northern Colorado (2/28)... BIG SKY TOURNAMENT: posted eight points (3-5 FG, 2-2 3-pt), three rebounds and two assists against Montana State... scored three points with two rebounds and two steals against Weber State.

PREVIOUS TO PORTLAND STATE
    Spent two seasons playing at Washington State... played in 26 games with one start as a sophomore... averaged 9.5 minutes per game, scoring 1.7 points per game... also had 24 rebounds and 11 assists last season... played in 14 games as a freshman averaging 1.0 points.
    Had a standout prep career at South Medford High School... averaged 12.5 points, 4.8 assists and made 54 three-point field goals as a freshman... led the team to a league title and sixth place in the state tournament... as a sophomore he averaged 14.5 points, 6.9 assists and made 59 three-pointers... led the team to second place in state... earned first team All-Conference, first team All-State Tournament and second team All-State honors... as a junior, South Medford won the state championship... averaged 20.1 points, 5.0 assists and made 64 three-point field goals... named first team All-League, All-State and All-State Tournament... named first team All-Tournament at the Les Schwab Invitational and the Bass Pro Tournament in St. Louis... while a senior, averaged 21.0 points and six assists per game... named first team All-Conference and first team All-State.... scored 1,949 points as a four-year starter, ranking second in school history behind Duke forward and former teammate Kyle Singler.

    Son of Steve and Debbie Harthun... born July 31, 1989... has one brother, Brian, and one sister, Nicole... majoring in Public Health... hobbies are football, disc golf, hiking, high-diving, spending time with teammates, friends and his girlfriend... would like to play professional basketball or be a fireman.
