Box Score 2 MORAGA, Calif. – Portland State men's tennis split its Saturday doubleheader in California, defeating UC Santa Cruz 4-0 before falling 4-2 to Saint Mary's at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
Both duals were played to a clinch, leaving several matches unfinished. The Vikings moved to 2-4 overall with the split.
Starting the day against Division III opponent UC Santa Cruz, the Vikings took the opening point with doubles victories from Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz at No. 2, and Luke Lu and Hampus Hagglund at No. 3. In singles, Maas Schotanus cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, before Ruiz (No. 4) and Lu (No. 6) closed out the match with 6-3, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-3 wins, respectively.
The Vikings fell behind in doubles to start their second match of the day, as Saint Mary's claimed victories on the top two courts to take the opening point. Pandit earned his second win of the year at the No. 1 spot, giving PSU a point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Finn Dyer in singles action. Meanwhile, Schotanus notched his second win of the afternoon at No. 3, defeating Francisco Duran 6-3, 6-1 to remain undefeated on the season. Saint Mary's clinched the victory with wins at lines two, four and six.
Portland State will take on Santa Clara on Sunday, Feb. 8 to close out the weekend. The match will begin at 10:00am at the Degheri Tennis Center.
