Maas Schotanus, Luca Prino Shine for Vikings at Oregon's Duck Invite

EUGENE, Ore. -- Junior Maas Schotanus continued his run of good form at this weekend's Duck Invite, where PSU faced off against Oregon, Gonzaga and the University of Portland. Schotanus picked up a 4-2 record overall, including three wins over Power 4 opponents from the University of Oregon.

Schotanus went 1-2 in doubles play with partner Edoardo Cravanzola replacing his usual teammate Aarjun Pandit, who sustained an injury in the finals of the ITA Northwest Regional. Schotanus excelled in the singles, picking up a 3-0 record. He defeated two players from Oregon in straight sets, beating Russell Soohoo, 6-3, 6-4, and Christopher Rodi, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Junior Luca Prino also came into the Duck Invite in great shape after playing his way into the main draw at the ITA Northwest Regional. He went 4-1 on the weekend, highlighted by a perfect 2-0 record in singles play. Prino and doubles partner Vit Petcov won two matches over Gonzaga's duo of Hernandez and Herrera and Oregon's Rodi and Mathiesen, 6-4 and 6-3, respectively. In singles, Prino's confident play notched him two strong wins. He took down Anirudh Nallaparaju from the University of Portland, 7-5, 6-2, and Oregon's Rasmus Hembo Mathiesen, 6-2, 6-1.

Sophomore Shun Wakino picked up his first win with Portland State when he defeated Eli Noel from the University of Portland in a dramatic three-set match. The first set went in the favor of Noel, 6-4, but Wakino responded with a 6-2 win in the second, then claimed the third set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3).

Petcov, who played exceptionally well with Prino in doubles, also snagged a victory over the University of Portland's Eli Noel in singles. Petcov dropped the first set in a tiebreak loss 7-6 (4), but then won the next two sets in commanding fashion, winning 6-3 in the second set, and then bageling Noel, 6-0, in the third set.

The Vikings are headed to Spokane next for the Gonzaga Fall Invitational, Nov. 6-9.
