SEATTLE, Wash. – Portland State junior
Maas Schotanus and sophomore
Aarjun Pandit are in uncharted territory. The doubles pair are through to the semifinals at the ITA Northwest Regional after a quarterfinal win Sunday.
No PSU doubles team has ever reached the semifinals of the ITA Northwest Regional, a tournament that pits the Vikings against regional powers from Power 4 Conference among others. Schotanus and Pandit beat just such a team to advance to tomorrow's semifinals, toppling
University of Oregon's Dan Hughes and Declan Galligan, 8-5. They're set to face the fifth-seeded doubles team in the tournament, Luca Bluett and Adam Farag-Cao from Santa Clara University, in the semifinals. That match is scheduled for 12 p.m. Monday, with the winner advancing to the championship match on Tuesday.
Pandit has been excellent as a dual-threat player in the tournament. Besides his doubles success with Schotanus, he reached the round of 32 in the main singles draw. Pandit entered the 2026 fall season after a standout freshman year where he posted a 7-5 record at No. 1 singles, fifth-place all time.
Elsewhere, sophomore Shun Wakino took a 6-3, 6-1, win over Saint Mary's Joseph Lyon in Sunday's extra matches. He notched his first-ever win for Portland State after transferring from Southern Arkansas.
Freshman Kawelo Tsuneyoshi played Sacramento State's Adryan Ballastero in the singles extra draw and lost in three sets despite playing a fantastic game. Tsuneyoshi won the first set, 6-3, but then dropped the next two sets, 6-1, 7-5.
