POCATELLO, Idaho — Emma Stolte scored for the Vikings in the women's 800 meters and mile to lead the Portland State track & field program Saturday on the final day of the Big Sky Indoor Championships.
Â
Stolte opened her day in the mile, placing sixth in 4:56.07. She ran with the leaders throughout, but an NAU foursome of Emma Stutzman, Hayley Burns, Ava Mitchell and Payton Godsey proved impenetrable at the front as they took the top four spots in the race, while Weber State's Saga Hagelin placed fifth.
Â
Stolte returned to the track around 90 minutes later for the finals of the 800 meters. Stolte – who set the school record in the 800 at 2:08.51 earlier in the season and ran the fifth-fastest qualifying time Friday – got a bit unlucky at the start of the race. Placed on the inside rail, the rest of the field sprinted past Stolte at the start, pushing her to the back of the field from the jump. She tried to pass, but other runners countered every move she made as she finished eighth in 2:14.95.
Â
Regardless, Stolte is the first Viking since Staci Bielenberg and Amanda Kamm in 2007 to score in both the 800 and mile at a single Big Sky Indoor Championships. No Viking had scored in the women's indoor mile since Amber Rozcicha in 2013.
Â
Add it to the list of history Stolte has set this season. Besides her 800-meter record, Stolte moved up to second all-time in the mile and 3k during the indoor season. In the fall, she tied a single-season program record with five top 10 finishes during the 2025 cross country season. That included a ninth-place finish at the Big Sky Championships, giving Stolte all-conference honors.
Â
Outside Stolte,
Abdinajib Abade tried his best to score out of the first section of the men's mile. Abade placed second in his section in 4:16.31 but ultimately finished 10th overall.
Ari Smith and
Luke Gillingham followed Abade at 16th and 18th in 4:25.43 and 4:26.09, respectively.
Â
Jackson Mathers finished 12th in the triple with a best mark of 44-03.25 (13.49m). Freshman
Farhan Ibrahim placed 20th in the men's 3k later in the day, finishing in 8:58.78.
Â
The lone seasonal best to come out of Saturday came from
Jaelyn Sayler in the women's shot put. Sayler improved on all three of her attempts, topping out at 36-06.25 (11.13m). That was five inches farther than her mark a week ago at the GFU Indoor #2, and placed her 23rd overall. Freshman
Natalie Fisher finished just ahead of Sayler at 22nd with a best mark of 38-09.75 (11.83m).
Â
The Vikings will now turn the page towards the outdoor track & field season, which gets underway March 14 at the Rich Allen Classic, hosted by George Fox University.
