FARMINGTON, Utah — The Big Sky Conference announced the results of its 2025 preseason women's soccer poll monday afternoon, with Portland State ranked eighth and Viking standouts Aliayha Saldana and Liv Frazier earning preseason All-Conference honors.
Monday's announcement marked the inaugural Big Sky Preseason Women's Soccer Team. The poll and all-conference team were determined by votes from the league's nine head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own teams or players.
Saldana and Frazier were two of 12 players across the conference to receive individual recognition. Saldana, the reigning Big Sky Freshman of the Year and a 2024 Second Team All-Conference selection, will help lead the Vikings' attack this season. The La Habra, Calif., native was one of three forwards to earn preseason honors after scoring three goals and recording two assists a season ago, while averaging 3.28 shots per game — the highest mark in the Big Sky.
Frazier, a First Team All-Conference honoree last year, was one of four defenders in the Big Sky to earn a preseason nod this afternoon. The Portland native will suit up for her senior season in 2025 after anchoring a back line that recorded four shutouts and allowed just 19 goals during the 2024 season — the fewest allowed by the program since 2014.
Despite back-to-back trips to the Big Sky Tournament semifinals, the Vikings were picked to finish eighth out of nine teams in the conference, earning 22 points — well ahead of last-place Idaho State (10 points) and just behind Northern Colorado (26 points) and Weber State (27 points). Reigning regular-season champion Montana topped the poll with six first-place votes and a league-high 60 points.
Portland State opens its 2025 campaign on the road this week, visiting Iowa State on Thursday, Aug. 14Â (4 p.m. PT), then Kansas State on Sunday, Aug. 17 (9 a.m. PT).
