Vikings Punch Ticket to Big Sky Tournament with Road Win Over Hornets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Portland State women's soccer team clinched a spot in the 2025 Big Sky Tournament with a 2-0 victory on Sunday at Hornet Field to close out the regular season.

The Vikings, who needed a win or tie on Sunday to extend their season, scored twice in the opening half and finished the regular season 4-8-4 overall and 3-3-2 in Big Sky play. Sacramento State closed the year 6-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference action.

Portland State's Maya Wells put the Vikings on the board early, capitalizing on a rebound from an Ocean Rideout shot in the 14th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, Rideout doubled the lead off a pass from Kamaria Hughes, placing a shot into the lower right corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Natalie Cunningham and the Viking defense held the Hornets scoreless the rest of the way. Cunningham tallied seven saves en route to her third shutout of the season.

The Vikings placed seven of their nine shots on goal, while the Hornets recorded 14 shots with eight on target. Rideout and Wells combined for five of PSU's attempts, while Camilla Contreras Bran added two.

Portland State will head to the Big Sky Tournament in Missoula, Nov. 5–9, as the No. 4 seed. The Vikings will face No. 5 seed Idaho in the opening round on Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. MT.
