Vikings’ Season Ends with 1-0 Loss to Vandals in Big Sky Quarterfinals

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Portland State women's soccer team's Big Sky quarterfinal match was decided by a single goal on Wednesday, mirroring much of their season. This time, it wasn't in their favor, with the Vikings falling 1-0 to Idaho at South Campus Stadium.

The Vandals have been the Vikings' postseason kryptonite over the past three years, as Wednesday's loss marked the third straight season Portland State has fallen to Idaho in the Big Sky Tournament. The fourth-seeded Vikings capped their 2025 campaign with a 4-9-4 overall record. Fifth-seeded Idaho, which will now face top-seeded Montana in Friday's semifinals, improved to 6-5-8 overall with the victory.

The teams battled to a scoreless first half as Viking goalkeeper Natalie Cunningham showcased why she was a second-team all-conference selection, making four crucial saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the Vandals off the board.

Portland State, which recorded five shots in the first half, tallied seven more in the second to outshoot Idaho 12-7 overall. However, the Vandals broke through in the 78th minute, striking from outside the box to take a 1-0 lead.

McKenna Eggleston, Grace Sarabia, and Sydney Spotts all delivered shots down the stretch but couldn't find the magic needed to equalize, as Idaho held on for the win and the shutout.

Cunningham finished the match with five saves, Josie DeLine led the Vikings with three shots, putting one on goal.
