Kendel Johnson Scores against Former Team to Lead Vikings Past Montana in Season Finale

In a picture-perfect finish to their 2026 season, the Portland State women's soccer team shut out Montana in a 1-0 win Thursday.

The Vikings started the match strong, outshooting the Grizzlies 10-5 in the first 33 minutes. In the 33rd minute, Kendel Johnson, assisted by Aliayha Saldana, slid the ball into the bottom left of the net, earning her first career goal and putting the Vikings up 1-0.

Johnson's goal ignited a fire within the Vikings, who ended the first half with 12 shots, compared to the Grizzlies' nine. In the second half, the Grizzlies tried to make a comeback, and despite outshooting the Vikings 10-7, Portland State's defense proved too strong. Goalkeeper Finley Crabtree finished the match with her second career shutout and eight saves, just behind her career high of nine.

The match finished with shots tied at 19-19. Camilla Contreras Bran led the Vikings in shots with a career-high of five.

With this win, the Vikings conclude their 2026 season, and will return to the pitch next August.
