Goodyear, AZ – For the second straight day a Viking posted a career-best round as graduate student
Avery Kageyama turned in an even-par 72 at the Bobcat Desert Classic.
Kageyama birdied the final two holes of the day for her even-par round, coming in two strokes better than any other round she has played this season. On Monday, teammate
Payten Shimizu shot a three-under par 69 in the same event for her career-low round at PSU.
The Vikings finished the day with a 13-over par 301 total – three strokes improved over their first-round score. PSU has posted 304-301=605 in two rounds at The Golf Club of Estrella. The tournament's final round comes on Wednesday.
Weber State climbed into first place with 288-289=577. Host Montana State and Idaho are tied at just one stroke behind the Wildcats with matching 578s.
Idaho's Zoe Newell is the tournament leader with a -7 score with rounds of 66-71. Lauren Greeny of Montana State and Jade Gruher of Weber State are tied for second at -4.
Shimizu, a junior, remains in the top 10 through two rounds. She was third after round one, then shot 76 on Tuesday. Her one over-par 145 is good for ninth place heading to the final round.
Kageyama's 72 moved her 15 spots up the leaderboard to a tie for 29th. She has carded 79-72=151 over two days.
Also playing well on Tuesday was junior
Bayler Brundage. She was two-under par through eight holes and finished her round with a two-over 74. Brundage is at 79-75=154 after two days and improved nine spots to a tie for 35th.
Momo Udom also scored for the Vikings on Tuesday. She improved by four shots over Monday's round and has posted 82-78=160.
