A more experienced and deeper Portland State Women's Golf Team opens the 2025-26 season next Monday at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate in Bozeman, MT. The Vikings will be part of an 11-team tournament, hosted by Montana State, at Riverside Country Club.
 
The opening tournament will play a lot like a Big Sky Conference preview as six league teams will be competing.
 
The Vikings are coming off a season in which they placed eighth in the Big Sky. With just one lost letterwinner and three newcomers on the team, the competition and quality of play should be heightened in the coming season.
 
Fourth-year players Bayler Brundage (77.86) and Payten Shimizu (77.09) return as do third-year players Cynthia Valerie Ong (77.00) and Momo Udom (79.09). Sophomore transfer Maddie Dustin, who played at Hawai'i last season, and freshmen Caithlyn Ong and Francesca Tomp, a four-time Oregon 5A state champion, round out the roster.

Head Coach Bill Winter begins his fifth season leading the program.
 
The seven-playing-for-five starting spots this year should increase competition in practice as well as level of play. All seven are spending this week qualifying for the opening event.

• The Yellowstone Intercollegiate will be the first of four tournaments this fall, happening in successive weeks.
• Cynthia Valerie Ong, Payten Shimizu and Bayler Brundage were the Vikings top three scorers last year, while Momo Udom had the best finish at the Big Sky Championship (224, t21).
• Cynthia Valerie Ong's 77.05 career scoring average ranks 10^th all-time at PSU. Payten Shimizu (77.85) currently ranks 15^th… Bayler Brundage (76) and Payten Shimizu (75) currently rank 21^st and 22^nd all-time in career rounds played at PSU.
