Ong Sisters Lead Vikings on Final Day of Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. — The Portland State women's golf team closed out its fall season Tuesday with the third round of the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational.

The Ong sisters – Cynthia Valerie Ong and Caithlyn Ong – led the way for the Vikings, tying for 32nd overall with matching 223 tournament scores (Caithlyn, 75-75-73; Cynthia Valerie, 78-70-75).

They got to the same spot via different routes Tuesday. Cynthia Valerie Ong played a steady round. She parred 15 of the 18 holes Tuesday, bringing her tournament par total to 42 – tied for the second-most pars in the field. Caithlyn Ong, meanwhile, balanced five bogeys with four birdies to shoot a one-over 73 in the third round. Caithlyn Ong moved up 13 spots Tuesday to match her sister.

Maddie Dustin played the first 11 holes of Tuesday's third round at even par, but had a tough finish over a difficult back nine at the Tacoma Golf and Country Club. Dustin finished the round six-over, giving her a tournament score of 236 (83-75-78) to tie for 88th.

Momo Udom closed with her best round of the tournament, shooting a six-over 78 to finish tied for 94th at 240 (82-80-78).

The Vikings finish tied for 16th as a team with a tournament score of 920 (316-300-304).

They'll use the rest of the fall term to hone their game before returning to the course, Feb. 8-10, at the Mountain Classic Match Play. Boise State will host the tournament at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.

TAP-INS:
  • BIRDIE WATCHING (through 54 holes): Caithlyn Ong, 5; Cynthia Valerie Ong, 4; Maddie Dustin, 2; Francesca Tomp, 2; Momo Udom, 2.
  • Fifteen total birdies is the lowest total for the Vikings at a tournament this fall.
  • Cynthia Valerie Ong finished with 42 pars out of 54 holes at the tournament, tied the second most in the tournament field. She had 15 in the third round Monday.
  • The Vikings' 16-shot improvement from round one to two is the largest since the Vikings also improved by 16 shots between the first two rounds at the 2025 Kalispel Invitational.
  • Cynthia Valerie Ong's two-under par second round was her third under-par round of the season. It was her first since she shot back-to-back four-under 68s at the Wolver Invitational three weeks earlier. Ong has nine under-par rounds in her Portland State career, ranking her sixth all-time.
