PORTLAND, Ore. – Aiming to secure a spot in next month's Big Sky Tournament, the Portland State women's soccer team will host fourth-place counterpart Sacramento State in their regular-season finale this Sunday, Oct. 27, at Hillsboro Stadium (12:05 p.m.)
The Vikings will honor their five seniors on the field before kickoff on Sunday. Free pizza will be available for fans while supplies last, and the first 100 attendees will receive a free Portland State flag. For those unable to attend, the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with live stats also available (links below).

SAC STATE NOTES:Â Entering Sunday with the same conference record as the Vikings, the Hornets are tied for fourth place in the Big Sky standings. They are unbeaten in their last five outings, posting a 2-0-3 record since their most recent loss to Eastern Washington on Sept. 29, including three consecutive draws against Northern Colorado, Montana, and Northern Arizona. However, they have struggled away from home this season, carrying a 0-6-2 road record into Hillsboro Stadium on Sunday. The Hornets have scored 16 goals in 2024, led by senior midfielder Abigail Lopez, who has a team-high four goals. They've recorded four shutouts, two of which came in conference play, all anchored by redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Izzy Palmatier. The Hornets have scored nine goals against Big Sky opponents, ranking third in the conference, while averaging 11.57 shots per game in league play.

VIKINGS' LAST TIME OUT - AT NORTHERN ARIZONA AND MONTANA
The Vikings went 1-1 last weekend. They began with a gritty 1-0 victory over the Lumberjacks in Flagstaff on Friday, Oct. 18, scoring a set-piece goal in the fourth minute to secure the win and their third consecutive shutout. However, they were just seven minutes away from achieving a fourth straight shutout against Montana on Sunday when a late goal from the Grizzlies resulted in a 1-0 loss in Missoula, closing out the weekend.

Entering the weekend, three teams—Idaho, Montana, and Eastern Washington—have secured their spots in the Big Sky Tournament, leaving three spots still up for grabs. The winner of Sunday's match between the Vikings and Hornets will claim one of those remaining spots, while the other two will be determined by this weekend's results.

- She earned her first career Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week honor last Tuesday following the Vikings' 1-0 shutout over Northern Colorado on Oct. 10, where she made 10 saves—just two shy of her career-high
- Millan leads the Big Sky with an average of 5.55 saves per game, totaling 61 saves this season. Her .847 save percentage and 1.05 goals-against average both rank second in the conference.

- Junior forward/midfielder Elle Frazier leads the team with five goals, two of those being game-winnersÂ
- Three of Frazier's goals have come against conference opponents, scoring the equalizer in draws against Eastern Washington (T, 1-1) and Weber State (T, 1-1) before scoring the game-winning goal in the Vikings' victory over NAU last Friday

- Freshman forward Aliayha Saldana leads the conference with 45 shots this season, averaging 3.00 shots per game

- Her 33 shots and 17 shots on goal rank second on the team while her 2.20 shots per game ranks sixth in the Big Sky
- Two of her three goals this season came in the second half against South Dakota (9/8), fueling the Vikings' thrilling comeback in the 51st and 69th minutes. She also set a career-high with seven shots, including four on goal, in that match.
- Her brace at South Dakota was the third brace of her career meaning she has now scored either a brace or a hat trick in each of her four seasons at PSU

She tallied 18 points (6 goals, 6 assists) in 2023 which ranked second in the Big Sky, while her four assists during BSC play led the conference. She also compiled a team-high 48 shots, putting 20 on target.Â
- Fellow senior Lucy Quinn, a 2022 Honorable Mention All-Big Sky midfielder joins Hoffman in the midfield this season. Quinn has started 46 of her last 47 matches and recorded three goals with two assists over the past three seasons.
- Fifth-year senior Sydney Watson rounds out the experienced group after starting all 18 matches last season, logging 1,424 minutes of action in the midfield. So far, Watson has played all but 11 minutes in 2024.

- Liv Frazier (Jr., D) - notched her first career assist against Northern Colorado (10/12), feeding a free kick to Abi Hoffman in the 55th minuteÂ

In a notable shift this off-season, former Associate Head Coach
Maureen Whitney was promoted to Co-Head Coach by
Katie Burton, who previously held the position alone. Whitney joined Portland State as an assistant coach in 2017, was elevated to Associate Head Coach the following year, and now steps into the co-head coach role alongside Burton. Both coaches are in their eighth season at PSU this fall. Additionally,
Lindsay LaMont, a former Oregon State goalkeeper and Viking assistant coach from the 2022 season, returns to the staff as a full-time assistant, working primarily with the goalkeepers.
