PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team will continue its run of non-conference matches this week in Honolulu, Hawaii as they take on Hawaii Pacific and UC San Diego. The Vikings will begin the week against Hawaii Pacific on Wednesday (2 p.m. PT), followed by a Thursday dual match against UC San Diego (1 p.m. PT).
Coming off a bye week, the Vikings enter Wednesday's match 6-9 overall (1-3 BSC). Following a 4-3 win over North Dakota in their home finale on March 15, the Vikings dropped a 5-2 match to Oregon on the road. The two points scored against the Ducks were the most in program history against Oregon.
Gregory Gruenig and Jonas Hembo Mathiasen were the two Vikings to pull off victories against the Ducks, while two others pushed their UO opponents to three sets. Playing at No. 3, Mathiasen defeated Ivailo Keremedchiev, 6-7 (7), 6-2, 1-0 (8). Grueing made it look easy at the No. 6 spot, topping Russell Soohoo 6-2, 6-2.
With an 8-7 singles mark, Jan Semerak leads Portland State, while Gruenig is right behind at 7-8.
The Vikings are 19-20 in doubles action. Andrea Brignacca and Luka Jovanovic lead the way with an 8-6 record at the No. 3 spot.
