Box Score BEAVERTON, Ore. – It took the Portland State men's tennis team just 90 minutes to complete a dominant 7-0 sweep over William Jessup on Friday afternoon at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. It was the second sweep of the season for the Vikings, as they improved to 2-3 overall. Friday's dual counted as a scrimmage for the Warriors, as they remain 1-1 on the year.Â
PSU got off to a hot start, beginning the match with a trio of doubles victories.
Luka Jovanovic and
Andrea Brignacca opened the dual with a 6-0 win over Tanner Sitanggang and Aiden Sauer at the No. 3 spot.
Jan Semerak and
Gregory Gruenig clinched the doubles point for the Vikings, improving to 2-1 as a duo with a 6-2 defeat of Roger Wen and Kadyn Silva at the top court. Completing the sweep for Portland State were
Simon Kuszynski and
Jonas Hembo Mathiasen, winning their match 6-2 over Sam Smith and Jordan Lenney at the No. 2 spot. Â
The Vikings continued to dominate in singles play, making quick work of their Warrior opponents.
Andrin Zuellig and Semerak got things started for the Vikings, recording 6-1, 6-0 wins at courts two and six. Mathiasen clinched the dual victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court four before Jovanovic and Gruenig added to the lead with a pair of 6-2, 6-1 wins at the three and five spots. At No. 1 singles, Brignacca capped off the sweep, defeating Silva 6-4, 6-1 to finish the day.
The Vikings will get a week of rest before continuing their nine-match home stand. They'll return to action next Friday, Feb. 10 against George Fox at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (2 p.m.).
