Box Score Portland, OR – The Portland State men's tennis team pulled out a convincing 6-1 win over George Fox University at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center on Friday. The Vikings improved their home record to 3-0 and season record to 3-3 with the victory.
 
PSU opened with the doubles point, taking all three matches. The Vikings followed by winning five of six singles matches, three in straight sets.
 
Andrea Brignacca won a marathon singles match at number one, coming from behind to beat the Bruins' Vahag Pashayan, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8). Brignacca also teamed with Luka Jovanovic to win at number-three doubles, 6-2.
 
Jovanic, Jan Semerak, Jonas Hembo Mathiasen and Gregory Gruenig were all winners in singles and doubles as well. Semerak, Jovanic and Mathiasen won in straight sets. Gruenig came from behind to win, 5-7, 6-4, (10-8). He is now 4-2 in singles play this season, the best mark for the Vikings.
 
PSU has won nine of 15 doubles matches so far this season. The teams of Simon Kuszynski and Mathiasen, and Semerak and Gruenig are each 3-1 in doubles play.
 
George Fox dropped to 2-1 with the loss.
 
Portland State was playing the second of nine straight home matches. The Vikings will host Pacific University on Saturday at 10 a.m. PSU begins Big Sky Conference play at home next Friday against Sacramento State.
