First-Place Vikings Set For Back-to-Back Road Tests

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's soccer team is headed into the weekend with a target on its back, looking to extend its unbeaten streak on the road against Idaho (Friday, Oct. 14) and Eastern Washington (Sunday, Oct. 16).

The Vikings and Vandals will kick off at 6:05 p.m. in the Kibbie Dome on Friday. Kick-off is slated for 1:05 pm at Eastern Washington on Sunday. Both matches will air live on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT

The Vikings are riding high after clinching a spot in the Big Sky tournament following two wins over Idaho State and Weber State last weekend. The Bengals pushed the Vikings on Friday, jumping out to an early lead but Portland State answered with a pair of goals from Raniyah Burton and Ocean Rideout in the first half to secure the victory. It was the Vikings' first come-from-behind victory of the season. The Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Weber State on Sunday before the Wildcats answered with back-to-back goals of their own. Rideout scored her second goal of the weekend in the 78th minute, giving the Vikings a 3-2 win.

BIG SKY STANDINGS

With 13 points, the Vikings lead the Big Sky standings going into a pivotal weekend against second-place Idaho (12 points) and fourth-place Eastern Washington (8). Northern Arizona ranks third with nine points, while Montana and Sacramento State round out the top six with seven points each.

Portland State has already clinched its spot in the tournament but has a chance to clinch the regular season title this weekend. If the Vikings win both matches this weekend and NAU loses one, the Vikings will clinch at least a share of the 2022 regular season championship.
