PORTLAND – The Portland State women's soccer team will take on Sacramento State in the first Big Sky matchup of the season on Sunday, Sep. 26 at Hillsboro Stadium (1 PM).
The Vikings finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 2-5-0 overall record, their two victories coming against Western Oregon (2-1) and CSUN (3-1).
LAST TIME OUT
The Vikings had a solid performance against the Ducks in their non-conference finale last Sunday. Holding the Pac-12 foe to just a single penalty kick goal, PSU held its own against eleven corner kicks and 14 shots by the Ducks before eventually falling 1-0. Â
OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Vikings have scored four of their five goals this season in the second half
- PSU has put 35 of its 68 shots on target for a shot on goal percentage of .515
- Sophomore Ani Jensen has contributed to three of the Viking's goals this season. After recording three points in the Vikings' win against Western Oregon earlier this season, Jensen added to her total in the win over CSUN
- Freshman Abi Hoffman has a team-high 14 shots and seven shots on goal. She ranks ninth in the Big Sky, averaging two shots per game

- Fifth-year senior Megan Cornett netted her first career goal against CSUN (Sep. 10)
- Hannah Grady and Raniyah Burton each recorded their first career assists in the Vikings 3-1 victory over CSUN (Sep. 10)

- Senior Liz Hansen ranks 8th all-time time in career minutes played (5,639)
- The defender has put in a team-high 622 minutes of work, playing six complete matches so far this season
RISING TO THE OCCASION
- Sidney O'billovich has spent the past two contests in goal for the Vikings
- The Sophomore has recorded 20 saves in 293 minutes of work
- O'billovich recorded a career-high nine saves against the Ducks last weekend

Portland State will enter Sunday in search of its first Big Sky victory since Oct. 6, 2019 when they defeated Northern Arizona 1-0
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
Sacramento State will enter its Big Sky opener against the Vikings with a 1-5-2 record. The Hornets earned their only victory against Nevada 3-0 on Sep. 5 and are coming off a double-overtime draw with Fresno State (1-1). The Hornets have scored seven goals so far this season while being shut out six times during non-conference play.
SERIES HISTORY
The teams last met in the final matchup of the shortened 2020 spring season. After Sacramento State opened the two-game series with a 1-0 victory, they completed the sweep with a double-overtime win over the Vikings 2-1 (April 11). The Vikings are 2-3 against the Hornets with Head Coach Katie Burton at the helm. The Hornets lead the all-time series 15-10-3. Â
