Box Score CHENEY, Wash. -  After falling behind early, the Portland State men's tennis team used five singles wins to capture its first Big Sky Conference victory of the season 5-2 over Eastern Washington.
 
Winning its fourth straight, the Vikings are now 4-3 on the year (1-0 BSC) while EWU falls to 0-7 (0-1 BSC).
 
Portland State improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play while the Eagles drop to 0-7, 0-1 in Big Sky action.
 
The Eagles opened the dual strong, earning two wins in doubles play to secure a 1-0 lead over PSU.
 
Tommy Edwards and Matteo Fortini were the lone Viking duo to earn a win in the doubles portion, earning a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 spot.
 
Portland State had its work cut out for them, needing to clinch four singles wins to top the Eagles. The Vikings did just that, winning five of the six matches, two of those going to a third-set. Edwards was the first to lock in a win for the Vikings at No.2 (6-4, 6-3) followed by Tommy Hsu who defeated his Eagle opponent 6-3, 6-2.
 
Fortini came up short at the top spot falling in his match 7-6, 6-1 to knot the teams at two. Nikola Dimitrijevic took care of business on court three, pulling off a three-set victory (6-3, 2-6, 6-1) to put PSU on top 3-2. Sam Roberts sealed the deal for the Vikings in a 6-0, 6-4 defeat at No.6.
 
With the match already decided, Nils Plutat finished things off in the second three-set match of the day, completing a 6-2, 0-6, 7-5 victory at the No. 5 spot.  
 
PSU will head to Spokane on Sunday to face the Bulldogs in a non-conference dual (11 A.M.) Gonzaga will enter Sunday with a 5-1 overall record.
