BEAVERTON – The Portland State men's tennis team had a strong showing in its home opener on Tuesday, sweeping Pacific University 7-0 at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center.

The Vikings were set to face the Boxers on Saturday, Feb. 13 but the dual was postponed due to inclement weather over the weekend.

With its first win of the season, Portland State improves to 1-3 while Pacific falls to 0-1 on the year.

The Vikings secured the opening point after
Matteo Fortini and
Tommy Edwards earned their second victory of the season at No. 1 doubles (6-2) followed by a 6-4 victory in the No. 2 spot by
Nils Plutat and
Tommy Hsu.

PSU continued its momentum into singles play, securing victories across the board. Fortini was a perfect 6-0, 6-0 in his matchup at No. 1 singles while Edwards clinched the second singles win of his senior year at the No. 2 spot. (6-1, 6-2).

The rest of the Vikings lineup didn't disappoint, seeing Plutat defeat Koby Murata 6-0, 6-3 in the sixth spot, while
Sam Roberts and Hsu also locked in points for the Vikings at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. With the dual already clinched, PSU's
Nikola Dimitrijevic fought back from an early deficit in order to complete the sweep for the Vikings, clinching the final match of the day 7-5, 7-5.

PSU will return to action this weekend as they host Linfield College (Feb. 20) and Lewis and Clark College (Feb, 21). Â
