Vikings Set for Pair of Home Matches Against Eastern Washington, Idaho

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's soccer team will host a pair of Big Sky foes this weekend at Hillsboro Stadium. The Vikings will take on Eastern Washington on Friday (11:30 a.m.) before battling Idaho on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.

After beginning conference play with a victory two weeks ago, the Vikings are now 1-1-1 against Big Sky opponents and sit 3-6-1 overall. Head Coach Katie Burton and her squad currently sit sixth in the conference standings with four points. 


LAST TIME OUT 

The Vikings faced a pair of tough opponents on the road over the weekend. They began the trip falling 4-1 to Northern Colorado on Friday, Oct. 1 before finishing the weekend off with a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Montana (Oct. 3). The Viking attack recorded 


OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Three different Vikings have a shot total in the double digits entering the weekend (Chloe Huling, Raniyah Burton, Abi Hoffman)
  • Burton notched her first career goal against Northern Colorado last weekend (Oct. 1) 
  • Hoffman leads the Vikings with a team-high 25 shots and 11 shots on goal. She also leads the team with seven points 
  • Hoffman also ranks fourth in the Big Sky, averaging 2.50 shots per game 


HOFFMAN HAT TRICK 

  • Hoffman put on a show against Sacramento State, netting a trio of goals in the victory over the Hornets on Sept. 26
  • The freshman was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week following her performance in the Big Sky opener


BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Vikings have scored eight of their ten goals in the second half this season (80%)
  • The Vikings rank sixth in the Big Sky with an average of 11.30 shots per game
  • Portland State has recorded the lowest amount of corner kicks in the Big Sky, seeing only 23 so far this season. 

 
SHE'S A KEEPER 

  • Viking goalkeeper Sidney O'billovich saw limited minutes to begin the season before getting her first career start in goal at San Francisco (Sept. 12)
  • The Sophomore transfer recorded a career-high nine saves in her second start of the season against Oregon (Sept. 19) and earned her first win against Sacramento State (Sept. 26)
  • O'billovich will enter Friday having played 583 minutes this season and recording 40 saves 

 
A WHOLE LOT OF LIZ

  • Fifth-year senior defender Liz Hansen ranks seventh all-time in career minutes played (5,909)
  • The 2017 Big Sky Honorable Mention selection has put in a team-high 912 minutes of work this season, playing all 90 minutes in all but one match 


SCOUTING EASTERN WASHINGTON (FRIDAY, OCT. 8 – 11:30 A.M.)

Eastern Washington will enter Friday with a 4-8 record. The Eagles are 2-2 in Big Sky action, falling their last time out to Northern Arizona 1-0. EWU has picked up victories over Idaho State (3-1) and Southern Utah (2-0). Their only other conference win came against Weber State (2-1). The Eagles average a single goal and 7.8 shots per match. 


SERIES HISTORY

The Eagles hold an impressive winning streaking over the Vikings enter the weekend. They have won seven consecutive meetings between the teams, the last occurring in the Spring when they earned a 3-1 win. Despite losing the last seven, PSU still leads the all-time series 14-12-2.


SCOUTING IDAHO (SUNDAY, OCT. 10 – 1:00 P.M.)

The Vandals are 8-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference action. They will arrive in Portland after taking on Sacramento State on Friday. Idaho has picked up Big Sky wins over preseason favorite Northern Arizona (3-1) and Idaho State 1-0. Idaho tied Southern Arizona in a 0-0 double-overtime draw to close out the weekend its last time out.  


SERIES HISTORY 

The Vikings are hungry for a victory over the Vandals after falling in back-to-back 5-0 matches during the shortened 2020 spring season. Idaho will head into Sunday leading the all-time series over the Vikings 10-5-0.
