Vikings Prepped For Final Regular-Season Road Trip at Idaho State, Weber State

PORTLAND, Ore. – Following a historic comeback win on Sunday, the Portland State Women's soccer team will look to carry its momentum into the final two road matches of the regular season against Idaho State and Weber State.

The Vikings will take on the Bengals on Friday in Pocatello, ID (6 PM PT) before closing out the weekend on Sunday at Weber State (12 PM PT). Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The Vikings will enter Friday 4-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Big Sky play. PSU currently sits sixth in the Big Sky with seven points.


LAST TIME OUT - HISTORY MAKERS

On Sunday, the Vikings overcame a two-goal deficit after halftime to earn a 3-2 win in overtime over Idaho. The victory marked the first time in program history that the Vikings have earned a win after trailing by two goals. Sienna Higinbotham was the one to seal the deal in overtime with a penalty kick in the 94th minute.


HOFFMAN LEADING THE ATTACK

  • Freshman Abi Hoffman ranks second in the Big Sky in shots, averaging 3.25 per game this season
  • With a team-high seven points, she leads the Vikings with 39 shots, 25 of those against conference opponents
  • Hoffman put on a show against Sacramento State, netting a trio of goals in the victory over the Hornets on Sept. 26
  • She was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week following her performance against Sacramento State earlier this season


SHOTS ON SHOTS

  • The Vikings recorded the largest shot count since 2017 against Idaho on Sunday (28)
  • The offense has combined for 48 in the last two matches
  • They currently lead the Big Sky in shots during conference play (94)
  • The Vikings have out-shot four out of five Big Sky opponents

SECOND HALF STRONG

  • The Vikings have scored 10 of their 13 goals in the second half
  • The defense has allowed just 39% of this season's goals in the second half

SHE'S A KEEPER

  • Viking goalkeeper Sidney O'billovich saw limited minutes to begin the season before getting her first career start in goal at San Francisco (Sept. 12)
  • The Sophomore transfer has recorded a career-high nine saves in two matches this season against Oregon (Sept. 19) and Montana (Oct. 3)
  • She recorded her first career shutout at Montana (Oct. 3) despite facing a season-high 19 shots
  • O'billovich will enter Friday having played 767 minutes this season and recording 52 saves
  • She averages 6.4 saves per match against conference opponents which ranks fourth among Big Sky goalies


A WHOLE LOT OF LIZ

  • Fifth-year senior defender Liz Hansen ranks fourth all-time in career minutes played (6,113)
  • The 2017 Big Sky Honorable Mention selection has put in a team-high 1,096 minutes of work this season, playing all 90 minutes in 11/12 matches in addition to three overtimes


SCOUTING IDAHO STATE (FRIDAY, OCT. 15 – 6 PM PT)

The Bengals are coming off a 2-0 loss to Northern Arizona this past Sunday. They are 1-13-1 overall and 1-4-0 against Big Sky opponents. Their one victory of the season came against Southern Utah on Oct. 8 (3-2). ISU averages 9.4 shots per game and has tallied just seven goals so far this season.


SERIES HISTORY

Portland State holds a 13-9-1 lead all-time over the Bengals in a series dating back to 1998. The Vikings have won three straight, the most recent win occurring on the road in 2019 (3-2). At the helm, Head Coach Katie Burton is 3-0 against ISU.


SCOUTING WEBER STATE (SUNDAY, OCT. 17 – NOON PT)

Weber State currently sits second in the Big Sky standings with a 4-1 record in the Big Sky. Holding a 7-6 overall record, the Wildcats will take on Sacramento State on Oct. 15 before heading to Portland. Their one conference loss came against Northern Arizona on Oct. 8 (4-1). WSU has scored 14 goals this season and averages 11.3 shots per game.


SERIES HISTORY

The Wildcats lead the all-time series 12-10-4. The teams haven't met since 2019 when the Vikings fell 1-0 in Ogden. A Viking win on Sunday would be the first since 2016 and the first since Burton took over the program.
