Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Friday, defeating George Fox 5-2 on the road to improve to 1-3 on the season.
The Bruins picked up a quick point in the doubles matchups, winning on court one and court three 6-4, 7-5 respectively.
Majeed Bukhari and
Nikola Dimitrijevic won their doubles match at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-2.
In singles play,
Tommy Edwards picked up his second straight victory, winning the top match of the day 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Following him was
Sam Roberts at No. 3, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
With the dual tied 2-2, the Vikings swept the final three singles matches to pick up the victory.
Majeed Bukhari jumped ahead in his match 6-1 before battle back from a 7-6 defeat in the second set before winning 6-3 in the third.
Otto Holtari won his match at No. 5, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 while
Sahal Bukary closed out the match at the No. 6 with a straight set victory, 6-2, 6-4.
The Vikings close out non-conference play next week as they face Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Feb. 15 before opening Big Sky play against Northern Arizona the following week.
