EUGENE – The Portland State men's tennis team competed in the first dual of the spring season, falling to Oregon 7-0 on the road at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks (2-0) picked up an early point in the doubles competition, sweeping all three matches.
Tommy Edwards and
Sam Roberts played in the No. 1 spot, falling to eighth-ranked duo Ty Gentry and Joshua Charlton 6-2.
At the No. 2 spot,
Majeed Bukhari and
Matteo Fortini played a hard-fought match, falling just short, 6-4, against Charles Roberts and Brandon Lam. In the final doubles competition,
Nikola Dimitrijevic team up
Otto Holtari but fell 6-2.
In singles play, Fortini started things off at the No. 1 spot, falling 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets. At No. 2, Edwards faced off against 14
th-ranked Joshua Charlton, turning in a strong result in the opening set before losing 6-4, 6-3 on the day.
Dimitrijevic turned in the most competitive match of the day at the No.3 spot, taking the first set against Gentry 6-1. UO answered back, winning 6-1 in the second set before edging out Dimitrijevic 7-5 in the third set.
Roberts dropped his singles match 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth spot while Holtari lost 6-1, 6-2 and Bukhari lost 6-3, 6-1.
The Vikings will take a week off before returning to action on Friday, Jan. 24 as they face cross-town rival Portland.
