Women's Soccer Travels for Matchups Against Oregon, Seattle University

PORTLAND – The Portland State women's soccer team will have its first road trip of the 2019 season as the Vikings prepare for their second straight Pac-12 opponent in Oregon on Friday, Aug. 30 before taking on Seattle University on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Last Week:
The Vikings are coming off a season-opening loss to Oregon State, falling 3-0 at Hillsboro Stadium. Portland State played a strong second half, shutting out the Beavers while creating a couple of opportunities that landed just out of reach of PSU strikers.

Experienced Youth:
It hasn't taken long for Portland State's newcomers to see action on the field, with all seven freshmen getting time against Oregon State. Four freshmen made the starting lineup including Sienna Higinbotham, Chloe Huling, Liv Lagerquist, and Olivia Stone.

Rotation in Goal:
Keepers Teri Walters and Enya Hernandez continue to split time in goal as both athletes remain in a deadlock for the starting spot. Walters collected PSU's loan save against Oregon State while Hernandez helped the defense keep the Beavers out of the net in the second half. With Walters and Hernandez continuing to prove they have the ability to start at this level, Head Coach Katie Burton will have a big decision to make as the season goes on.

Early Season Injuries:
The Vikings are facing some early adversity, collecting several early injuries including two captains and three total members of the backline. Portland State will have to continue to rely on its youth to step in and fill the injured gaps.
