STANFORD – The Portland State men's tennis team took some positive moments from the ITA Northwest Regional Championships hosted by Stanford, earning some decisive wins to start the season.
 
Otto Holtari picked up the first win of the day as he took down Seattle's Lars Schmassman in a quick 6-1, 6-1 match.
 
Also earing a victory on day one was Sam Roberts who defeated Giorgio Soemarno from Oregon, opening with a 6-1 set victory before bouncing back from a 2-6 loss to win 6-4 in the final set.
 
On the second day of the regionals, Nikola Dimitrijevic collected a big win over Washington's Kasper Smith. After dropping the first set 6-3, Dimitrijevic battled back to win 6-3 before taking the tiebreaker 7-5 to earn the comeback victory.
 
Roberts notched is second win of the tournament, defeating Kailhuia Lam of Washington 6-4, 6-2, with both victories coming against PAC-12 opponents.
 
The Vikings will take a week off before traveling north as they compete at the Pacific Northwest Invitational hosted by Washington and slated for Nov. 8-10.
