THE OPENING TIP
A pair of good-shooting, high-scoring teams will square off this Friday when Portland State meets San Francisco at the Sobrato Center on the campus of USF.

The Vikings (4-4) will go into the game having won three of four and averaging 89.0 points per game this season. The Dons (7-1) have won their last three games, average 81.8 points, and are off to their best start since 1999-2000 under new Head Coach Kyle Smith. It will be just the second time in history the two programs have met on the hardwood. The other game was all USF; a 77-40 win in San Francisco in 2014.

Portland State comes off a 110-79 win over New Hope Christian, a lower division school from Eugene. It marked the third time the Vikings have eclipsed 100 points this season. They did so without leading scorer JR F Braxton Tucker, who missed his third straight game with knee soreness. Tucker is questionable for the game with the Dons. Whether he plays or not the Vikings won't lack for scoring. PSU has six players averaging in double figures so far this season, with a seventh averaging 9.8 points. And JR C Traylin Farris has picked up the slack in the post. Starting in Tucker's place, Farris has 37 points and 14 rebounds in the last two games.

Friday's contest will be the sixth on the road in nine games for PSU. The Vikings are currently 1-4 on the road, with a loss at one West Coast Conference school (Loyola Marymount) and a win at another (Pepperdine). San Francisco is the third WCC road game for Portland State.

San Francisco is riding high thus far on the season, compiling a 4-0 home record. In the Dons' last six games they have shot 50% or better from the field. USF has played two Big Sky Conference schools, beating Sacramento State and losing at Eastern Washington (its only loss and in overtime).

Shooting .511 from the field for the season, USF ranks eighth in the nation. The Vikings are 10th in the nation at .509. San Francisco also ranks 19th in the nation in three-point shooting (.410). So, no matter what happens on Friday, it will be a challenge for each team's defense.

Friday's game tips off at 7 p.m. It is available via live video and audio stream at www.TheW.tv. Live statistics are available at www.ViksLive.com.

COMING UP
Portland State wraps up non-conference play next week. The Vikings play at Portland on Dec. 20, then host Walla Walla on Dec. 22 (5:05 p.m.). The Walla Walla game opens a stretch of four straight home games for PSU. Big Sky Conference play begins at home on Dec. 29 against North Dakota (7:05 p.m.), followed by Northern Colorado on Dec. 31 (2:05 p.m.). PSU then hosts Sacramento State on Jan. 7 (7:05 p.m.).

GAME NOTES: PORTLAND STATE vs. SAN FRANCISCO
• ALL-TIME SERIES: Portland State and San Francisco have met only one time. The Dons beat the Vikings, 77-40, in San Francisco on Dec. 18, 2014.
PORTLAND STATE vs. THE WEST COAST CONFERENCE: Portland State is 34-71 all-time against current members of the West Coast Conference, 1-1 this season. The Vikings play a total of four members of the WCC this season - all on the road. PSU lost at Loyola Marymount, 78-62, and won at Pepperdine, 91-85, in November. The Vikings will play at the University of Portland on Dec. 20.
COMMON OPPONENTS: Portland State and San Francisco have no common opponents this season. However, the Dons have played two Big Sky Conference schools, beating Sacramento State at a neutral site, 77-59, and losing at Eastern Washington, 96-90.
COACHES: Vikings Coach Tyler Geving (101-121/8th season) is 0-1 all-time against San Francisco and 5-10 all-time against WCC schools... Dons Head Coach Kyle Smith is in his first season (7-1) at San Francisco. He was the Head Coach at Columbia for the previous six seasons, compiling a 101-82 record. He has never faced Portland State.

SAN FRANCISCO DONS
• The University of San Francisco is a member of the West Coast Conference.
• The Dons were 15-15 last season, 8-10 and fifth place in the WCC.
• USF is currently 7-1 this season, 4-0 at home. The Dons have not played since Dec. 6.
• San Francisco shoots .511 from the field, which ranks eighth-best in the nation. The Dons make 10.5 three-point field goals per game, which also ranks eighth.
• USF averages 81.8 points while allowing only 69.0. The Dons outrebound opponents by 5.1 per game.
• With new Head Coach Kyle Smith, San Francisco's roster includes nine new players. However, holdover senior guard Ronnie Boyce is leading the team in scoring at 18.4 points per game. He also averages 5.4 rebounds.
• Junior forward Chase Foster is averaging 13.4 points and 4.6 rebounds.
• Sophomore forward Nate Renfro leads the team with 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

COMING SOON: AN ALL NEW VIKING PAVILION
The Peter W. Stott Center will remain the home court for the Vikings in 2016-17 while major construction is underway on the eastern portion of the building. That development will become the new Viking Pavilion, a venue that will seat 3000+ for basketball. A completion date is scheduled for winter 2018. PSU will find an alternate home court for 2017-18 until the new Pavilion is opened.

So, enjoy the current Stott Center while you can. With construction underway on the new Viking Pavilion, the Stott's main gym is in its final season of use. In fact, the gym, the academic center, the training room, and the new weight room are almost all that is left of the current facility.

This season, the Stott Center will be using makeshift ticketing, concessions and restroom facilities. At the end of this season, the gym will be taken off-line and transformed with the remainder of the building into the new Viking Pavilion.

Meanwhile, Pardon Our Dust.

• He averages 10.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in 19.7 minutes per game.

Last year for the Vikings, Holloway was 16-19 (.842) at the line. This year, he is shooting a team-leading 15-16 (.938) at the line, and ranks second in the Big Sky Conference.
