RESULTS - MENÂ | WOMEN
SEATTLE – The Portland State women's cross country team had its best team performance of the season on Saturday at the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in Seattle, Wash. The Vikings took fourth (130 points) in the 6,000-meter invitational to finish in the top half of the team standings for the first time ever at the meet. Host Washington won the women's race with 17 points. The Huskies were followed by Washington State (88), Nevada (93) and Portland State.
The Vikings beat out Oregon State (141), Seattle University (156), Fresno State (163), Tulane (171) and Hawaii (195).
For the second time in as many events, senior
Amanda Boman paced the Vikings as she finished 22nd overall with a mark of 21:39.11. She was also Portland State's top female runner at last week's Bill Delinger Invitational.
Portland State sophomore
Sarah Medved and freshman
Kaila Ann Gibson were half a minute back of Boman's pace. Medved (22:08.04) and Gibson (22:08.31) finished side-by-side to claim 30th and 31st, respectively. Junior
Cheryn Trapp was just a few strides behind them. Trapp finished in 34th place (22:13.79).
Freshman
Jocelyn Reynolds was next in line for the Vikings as she finished 53rd in 22:46.61. Junior
Kennedy Martin was 70th at 23:26.74, junior
Maggie Coleman was 73rd at 23:44.20 and freshman
Nevina De Luca was 75th at 23:48.33. Rounding out the race for Portland State were sophomore
Nyalual Beng (85th place, 24:40.83) and senior
Katie Hendricks (88th, 26:34.54).
There were fewer schools participating in the men's 8,000-meter invitational which saw the Portland State men finish fifth (out of six teams) with 138 points. Washington State and Washington battled for the top spot with the Cougars edging out the Huskies, 24-33. Seattle University was third with 104 points and Tulane was fourth with 118. Club Northwest finished behind the Vikings at sixth with 143 points.
Senior
John Talik was the first Viking across the finish line in 22nd place. He set a personal best in the race with his time of 25:13.98.
Sophomore
Alex Cisneros claimed a top-30 spot as he finished 29th (25:33.25). Senior
Aaron Campbell followed in the 35th place (25:51.69).
The other eight Portland State men finished in pairs and trios. Seniors
Neil Seibert (26:12.69) and
T-Roy Brown (26:16.64), and junior
Ben Richardson (26:17.68) came in 44th, 45th and 46th. Senior
Spencer Russell (27:19.54) and sophomore
Justin Wikler (27:23.14) finished 55th and 56th while junior
Nathan Fleck (27:40.97), sophomore
Jacob Hicks (27:49.02) and sophomore
Ethan Cotton (28:29.47) were 58th, 59th and 60th.
Both the men's and women's squads will have plenty of time to learn from and improve upon the Sundodger Invitational. The Vikings' next meet is not until October 17, when they'll race in the Emerald City Open, hosted by Seattle University at Lower Woodland Park.
