PORTLAND, Ore. – With the Big Sky Championships looming on Halloween, the Portland State cross country teams are set to run in one last tune-up race. The Viking men and women will be competing in Saturday's Emerald City Open at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle, hosted by Seattle University.
Â
The Portland State women are coming off their best race of the season in which they won the 17-team Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem on Oct. 3. Senior
Amanda Boman won the individual race and was one of three Vikings to finish in the top 10. The team win was the Vikings' best-ever finish at the storied Charles Bowles Invitational, while Boman became just the second Viking women's runner to win the individual race, joining Amber Rozcicha, who won in 2012.
Â
The Viking men will be back on the course for the first time in almost a month. The Emerald City Open will provide them with a measuring stick for how they progressed during the long layoff and how prepared they are for the conference championship meet.
Â
The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men's 8,000-meter run following at 11:15. Awards will be presented at the finish line at approximately 12:15 p.m.
