THE OPENING TIP
Portland State hopes to extend its perfect start to the season next Monday when the Vikings host Southern Illinois Edwardsville in a non-conference game. The Vikings are 2-0 with wins over USC (76-68) and Willamette (84-63). SIUE comes to Portland at 1-1. The Cougars play the University of Portland on Saturday before facing the Vikings.

The Vikings and the Cougars will meet one year and one day after their first-ever meeting, a 77-74 Viking win at the Stott Center, on Nov. 23, 2013. Monday's game tips off at 7:05 p.m. at the Stott Center. A live video stream is available at www.WatchBigSky.com. Live audio can be found at www.GoViks.com. Live stats are at www.vikslive.com and www.viksmobile.com.

If the Vikings can beat the Cougars, they will be 3-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Last year PSU lost its season opener, then won four straight games on the way to a 5-4 preseason record.

SIUE is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, located in Edwardsville, Illinois.

The game with the Cougars begins a busy week for the Vikings. PSU travels to Cal State Northridge for a Wednesday night game, then Oregon on Sunday, Nov. 30. The Matadors are 1-2, but losses have come to nationally-ranked San Diego State and Arizona, with a win over Montana State. The Ducks have started the season 2-0, but have three games prior to facing the Vikings.

THE SERIES: PORTLAND STATE VS. SIUE
• ALL-TIME SERIES: Portland State leads the series, 1-0. The Vikings are 4-2 all-time against Ohio Valley Conference teams.
• LAST MEETING, Nov. 23, 2013, Peter W. Stott Center: Portland State made a comeback from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat the Cougars, 77-74. The Vikings had only eight turnovers in the game while shooting .481 from the field and .818 at the line. Tim Douglas scored 18 points and handed out five assists in the win. DaShaun Wiggins added 17 points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench. Tim Johnson scored 17 to lead SIUE and Donivine Stewart added 16 points and five assists.
• COACHES:  Viking Coach Tyler Geving is 1-0 against SIUE. Cougars Coach Lennox Forrester is 0-1 against the Vikings.

GAME TRIVIA
• NON-CONFERENCE HOME GAMES: Portland State has lost only six non-conference home games since the start of the 2006-07 season (36-6). PSU is 21-6 against Division I schools, and 15-0 against lower division schools over that span.
• PRESEASON RECORDS: PSU had a 5-2 preseason home record and 0-2 preseason road record last year. The Vikings play four preseason home games (1-0) and six preseason road games (1-0) this season.
• STREAK: Portland State has won three straight home games dating to last season.

THE SIUE COUGARS
Southern Illinois Edwardsville is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Cougars were 11-20 last season, 7-9 in the OVC. Four starters and seven letterwinners return from that team... Head Coach Lennox Forrester is in his seventh season at SIUE and has compiled a 71-131 career record... junior guard Donivine Stewart is averaging 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game... senior guard Kris Davis averages 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds... the Cougars are averaging 87.5 points through two games and have held opponents to .368 shooting from the field.

BAMBA NAMED BIG SKY CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK AFTER FIRST GAME
Tiegbe Bamba made his first game as a Viking a memorable one. The 6-6 senior forward, who had to sit out last season with an achilles injury, led Portland State to a big 76-68 road win at USC last Saturday. For his performance the Big Sky Conference has selected Bamba as well as Eastern Washington's Tyler Harvey as Co-Players of the Week.

Against USC, Bamba scored 19 points with six rebounds, four steals and two assists in Portland State's 76-68 upset of Southern California on Saturday, Nov. 15. Bamba made 8-of-11 shots from the floor, and was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. The native of Sarcelles, France helped Portland State to just its fifth victory ever over a Pac-12 team.

Harvey, a 6-4, 185-pound senior guard from Torrance, Calif., averaged 19.5 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal per game as the Eagles opened the season with two Division I home wins. Harvey scored 21 points with three rebounds and three assists in an 86-62 win over Texas Southern on Friday, Nov. 14. He was 7-of-12 from 3-point range. In a 75-50 win over Utah Valley on Monday, he scored 18 points with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. He shot .500 percent from 3-point range for the week.

SUSTAINABLE AND RECYCLABLE VIKING QUICK NOTES

• The Vikings went 11-9 in the Big Sky Conference, 7-3 at home and 4-6 on the road.
• With 17 wins, PSU more than doubled the previous year's win total (8-20).

Stott Stuff
• PSU has gone 142-52 in 194 games at the Stott Center since the 1996-97 season. Including home games at Memorial Coliseum (12-6) and the Rose Garden (19-9), the Vikings are 173-67 at home over the past 19 seasons.
• Portland State is 49-23 at home in six seasons under Tyler Geving.
• Since the start of the 2006-07 season, PSU is 86-26 at home, including 50-22 in Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament games.
• Portland State has lost only six non-conference home games since the start of the 2006-07 season (36-6). PSU is 21-6 against Division I schools, and 15-0 against lower division schools over that span.

And The Trivial
• Portland State is 26-24 all-time in overtime. Coach Tyler Geving is 4-4 all-time in overtime. The Vikings were 3-1 in overtime in 2013-14. The four overtime games matched a school record.
• PSU is 2-15 against nationally-ranked opponents since joining the Big Sky Conference in 1996-97.
• Head Coach Tyler Geving is 1-2 all-time against ranked opponents.
• Portland State is 18-41 in games televised in the Portland area since joining the Big Sky Conference in 1996-97. That includes a 9-7 home record and 9-34 road record.

HOT SHOTS
• SR G Tim Douglas has missed only two shots in the first two games. He is 11-13 from the field (.846), 7-9 on three-pointers (.778). Douglas was 6-6/3-3 from the field against Willamette.
• SO G Bryce White posted 19 points, six rebounds and five assists in just 23 minutes against Willamette.
• SR F Teigbe Bamba is shooting .667 through two games (10-15) and .800 on three-pointers (4-5).
• SO F Braxton Tucker had the Vikings first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Willamette.
• PSU has 24 steals and a +11.5 turnover margin.

NOT SO HOT
• After just four turnovers against USC, the Vikings had 19 turnovers against Willamette.

POLLING NUMBERS: Following its victory over USC last Saturday, Portland State earned votes in the Mid-Major Top-25 poll. The Vikings received 26 polling points, effectively ranking 35th in the nation among mid-major teams.

SHOOTING STAR: Prior to the start of this season, Head Coach Tyler Geving lauded his senior point guard Tim Douglas for how hard he worked on his outside shooting during the off-season. That work has paid off. Douglas shot .382 from the field and .331 from three-point range last season. Through two games this season, Douglas is 11-13 from the field (.846) and 7-9 from three-point range (.778). Douglas was a perfect 6-6 from the field and 3-3 from three-point range against Willamette.

NEW PLAYERS, BIG IMPACT: Head Coach Tyler Geving inserted three new starters into his lineup for the opener at USC, and the results couldn't have been much better. SR F Tiegbe Bamba, SO G Bryce White and SO F Braxton Tucker were playing their first game as Vikings and they combined for 49 points (16-32 FG, 4-7 3-pt, 13-17 FT), 14 rebounds, four assists and six steals with only two turnovers. Each played 34 minutes... Bamba had 19 points, six rebounds and four steals... Tucker scored 16 points with five rebounds... White had 14 points with three rebounds... that trio followed up with 37 points (13-27 FG, 2-6 3-pt, 9-12 FT), 21 rebounds, nine assists and five steals against Willamette.

VALUE THE BASKETBALL: After two games, Portland State has forced opponents into twice as many turnvoers (46) than they have committed (23). The defining result is the advantage PSU has in points off turnovers, getting 61 while giving up only 22.

FAST HANDS: The 46 forced turnovers are in large part due to Portland State having 24 steals through two games - 10 against USC and 14 against Willamette. SR F Tiegbe Bamba leads the team with eight steals and SR G DaShaun Wiggins has five.

BEATING THE PAC-12: It doesn't happen often for the Vikings or members of the Big Sky Conference, but it happened last Saturday when Portland State beat USC for the first time in its history (1-1). PSU is 5-48 all-time against Pac-12 schools (5-36 since joining the Big Sky in 1996-97), and Coach Tyler Geving can now claim his first win (1-8) over the Pac-12... Portland State also has two wins over Oregon and two over Arizona State in its history... the Vikings have never beaten two Pac-12 opponents in the same season. They will get a chance to do so when they play at Oregon on Nov. 30.
