PORTLAND, Ore. —
The Portland State men's basketball team came back from a double-digit second-half deficit for the second straight night, beating SIU Edwardsville 77-74 Saturday in the Portland State Basketball Tournament at the Stott Center.

The Vikings (3-1) didn't hold a lead until 6:33 left in the second half Saturday, but only relinquished the lead once after that. Senior forward Kyle Richardson gave the Vikings a two-possession lead at 73-68 with a rebound basket with 1:43 left in the game, and junior guards Tim Douglas and Andre Winston Jr. each hit a pair of clutch free throws with less than 30 seconds left to close out the win.

The Cougars' Donivine Stewart had a look at a game-tying three-pointer as time expired, but the ball fell short of the front rim.

The win comes after the Vikings came back to beat Loyola Chicago 67-63 Friday, after trailing by as many as 17 points in the second half.

Douglas led the Vikings' comeback against SIU Edwardsville (1-4) Saturday, as he scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half on the back of three second-half three-pointers.

The Vikings defense stepped up in the second half as well, holding the Cougars to just 12-of-28 shooting in the period after the Cougars shot  17-of-26 from the field in the first half. The Cougars started the second half hot, too, making six of their first nine shots to maintain a 56-48 advantage with 12:26 to go, but the Vikings held them to just 6-of-19 shooting from there to fuel the team's comeback.

Portland State had threatened to come back earlier in the game, cutting within three points at 51-48 with 15:56 left to play, but the Cougars scored five straight points from there to push their lead back out to eight.

The Cougars rebuffed the Vikings' comeback attempts in the first half as well, as they responded to a Gary Winston three-pointer with 8:00 left that cut the lead to three at 22-19 with a 12-3 run of their own. That run gave them their largest lead of the game at 34-22, and led into the Cougars' 43-33 advantage at the break.

Overall, each team had three players score in double figures. Junior guard DaShaun Wiggins and senior forward Aaron Moore joined Douglas in double figures with 17 and 12 points, respectively, for Portland State, while SIU Edwardsville's Tim Johnson, Stewart and Keaton Jackson scored 17, 16 and 11 points, respectively.

The Cougars out-rebounded the Vikings 29-27 in the game, though Moore and Wiggins each recorded a game-high six rebounds for Portland State. Douglas also recorded a game-high five assists in the game, along with the Cougars' Stewart and Kris Davis.

The Vikings conclude play at their home tournament Sunday at 3 p.m. (PT) against UC Davis. Like the Vikings, the Aggies have also gone 2-0 at the tournament after they beat Loyola Chicago 64-61 in overtime earlier Saturday.

Game Notes: Saturday's game was the first-ever meeting between Portland State and SIU Edwardsville in men's basketball...The Vikings are now 33-4 in non-conference games at home since the 2006-07 season...Tim Douglas has now scored in double figures in each of his first four games as a Viking.
