Box Score

BEAVERTON, Ore.- Despite scoring the contests' opening marker, the Portland State Vikings (0-2-0) fell to Oregon State (3-0-0), 2-1 at Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation Center, on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Kayla Henningsen gave PSU a 1-0 lead early in the first half, but the Beavers tallied two second-half markers to hand Portland State the defeat.

It didn't take long for the Viks to get on the board in the contest as Henningsen lofted a shot over Audry Bernier-Larose from 35 yards out in the ninth minute of play. That set the tone for the first half as Portland State controlled the match steadily throughout the first half, registering five first half shots and taking its 1-0 lead into the intermission. The Vikings outshot OSU in the first stanza, 5-3, while the Beavers held the edge in corners, 1-0.

In the second half the Oregon State began to gain traction in the offensive game, recording some early chances. In the 71st minute Britney Olijar took control of a Megan Miller header in the box and fired a shot past senior goalkeeper Lainey Hulsizer to tie the score at 1-1. The Beavers took advantage of their momentum scoring just under a minute later, off a set piece, as Erin Uchacz connected with a header off a free kick by Justyne Freud, giving OSU a 2-1 advantage. Despite tallying three shots in the second half, Oregon State held off the Viks to earn its third victory of the season, winning 2-1.
The Vikings finished the contest outshooting its opponent for the second-straight contest, out-firing OSU 8-6. Both teams had three corner kick opportunities during the match.

"We played well today with many good moments and an outstanding gaol by Kayla," said head coach Laura Schott. "I'm really looking forward to Sunday."

Both Hulsizer and Bernier-Larose totaled one save apiece, while Henningsen led the team with two shots for PSU and Megan Miller recorded three shots for the Beavers.

The Vikings will be back in action this Sunday when it hosts the University of Oregon at Hillsboro Stadium. The match is slated for 1 p.m.

Game Notes: With the loss, PSU is now 4-10-1 against the Beavers in the program's history. Kayla Henningsen broke up Audrey Bernier-Larose shutout streak that lasted 188:55 seconds as the junior keeper held both UAB and the University of Portland off the scoreboard.
