SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Portland State men's tennis team dropped a pair of duals by scores of 7-0 each over the last two days. The Vikings fell to Nevada on Sunday in non-conference play and then to Sacramento State in Big Sky Conference play to push their season-high losing streak to nine straight.

Sunday – Nevada 7, Portland State 0

The Vikings dropped all three doubles matches to start the dual against the Wolfpack (8-10 overall) dropping the doubles point. Alec Marx and Nick Fracchia had the best of the three doubles matches at the No. 3 line for the Vikings. The duo, playing together for only the second time this season, played very competitively but would eventually fall by a score of 9-7.

Roman Margoulis and Zach Lubek both fell in straight sets to start singles play for the Vikings, giving the Wolfpack a 3-0 dual lead.

Mitch Somach took the first set of his No. 2 singles match by a score of 6-4 but then dropped his second set, 6-2. He tried to stay competitive in the third set but would eventually fall in the third by a score of 6-3, giving the Wolfpack the dual victory at 4-0.

Nevada would take the rest of the singles matches though Nick Fracchia made it interesting at the No. 5 singles line for the Vikings. He too won his first set, this time by a score of 7-5. He then quickly dropped the second set 6-1 forcing a decisive third set. Since the dual was already decided, the third set was played as a 10-point match tiebreaker, which he dropped 10-3.

Monday – Sacramento State 7, Portland State 0

On Monday afternoon, Marx and Frachhia again made it interesting in doubles play but lost 8-5 as the Vikings (2-16, 0-7 BSC) were again swept in doubles play to drop the doubles point.

Sacramento State (8-11, 6-1) took the 1-0 lead after doubles play and did not look back heading into singles play. Lubek and Margoulis, playing as the Vikings' No. 3 and No. 1 players respectively, dropped their matches in straight sets giving the Hornets a 3-0 lead.

Nate Chart dropped his No. 6 singles match by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 to give the Hornets a 4-0 lead and the dual victory. Marx, Somach and Fracchia dropped theirs singles matches giving the Hornets a clean sweep on the day.

The Portland State men's tennis team now returns home where it, and the Portland State women's tennis team, will both compete in their season finales in simultaneous duals against the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona on Saturday, April 14 at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash. The two simultaneous duals are slated to start at 1 p.m. PDT.
