VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Portland State men and women's teams dropped their season finales to Northern Arizona by dual scores of 6-1.
Mitch Somach and
Marina Todd recorded the only Vikings wins on the day.
Men's Tennis – Northern Arizona 6, Portland State 1
The men's tennis team dropped the doubles points after being swept in doubles play by scores of 8-1, 8-4 and 8-4 to fall to 1-0 moving to singles play.
Somach, playing as the Vikings No. 1 singles player for the first time this season due to an injury to
Roman Margoulis, won in three sets. He won the first set by a score of 6-3 but then dropped the second set 6-3 allowing the Lumberjacks to force the decisive third set. He then took the third set, again by a score of 6-3, to record his sixth singles match of the season.
Nick Fracchia was the first to finish for the Vikings after dropping his No. 3 singles match by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
Zach Lubek dropped his No. 2 singles match, 7-5 and 6-2.
Alec Marx then dropped his No. 4 singles match 6-5 and 6-1.
Nate Chart and Sean Sullivan, playing in his first dual of the season, dropped their No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches to finish out the dual.
The Vikings finished the season with a 2-17 overall record and 0-8 in Big Sky Conference play.
Women's Tennis – Northern Arizona 6, Portland State 1
The women's tennis squad also dropped their doubles point after losing two of the three doubles matches.
Ashley Spencer and
Marti Pellicano won their doubles match by a score of 8-6.
Alexa McDonald and Spencer dropped their No. 1 and No. 2 singles match to start off singles play to give the Lumberjacks a 3-0 lead.
Megan Govi dropped the No. 4 match my scores of 7-5 and then 6-2 to give the Lumberjacks the 4-0 lead and the dual victory. Pellicano then dropped her first set at the No. 3 line by a score of 7-5 and then won her second set 6-4. Since the dual was already decided the third set was played to a 10-point match tiebreaker which she lost 10-5.
Todd won her No. 5 singles match in three sets for her sixth match of the season to win her second straight match. She dropped the first set 6-4 and then won the second set 6-3. She won her third set match tiebreaker 10-6.
Nayanatara Vadali dropped her No. 6 singles match in a third set tiebreaker.
The Vikings finished the season 4-15 overall on the season and 1-7 in Big Sky play.
