PORTLAND, Ore. – After a week away from the competition courts, the Portland State men's tennis team hits the road once again this weekend with a Saturday non-conference dual with Utah State. The Vikings will then open conference play on Sunday morning against Idaho State with the dual slated to start at 10:00 a.m. PT.
Last time out for the Vikings they fell to Montana State, 6-1, in a non-conference dual to open up their home schedule.
Roman Margoulis, playing as the Vikings' No. 1, won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to earn the Vikings' first dual point of the season. Three other duals went to the decisive third set but a couple missed points cost the Vikings and couldn't win put their matches away.
Utah State comes into competition on Saturday with a 0-3 overall record having dropped their first three duals of the season including a season opening loss to Idaho State by a score of 1-6. They then lost to New Mexico State and Texas A&M Corpus Christi by scores of 7-0.
The Bengals come into play this weekend with a 1-2 record with their only win being against Utah State. They dropped non-conference matches to Weber State and Montana by scores of 2-5 and 3-4 respectively. The Vikings will be the third match of the weekend for Idaho State who play BYU on Friday and Utah on Saturday.
Following this weekend, the Vikings will again be on the road as they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on the Air Force Academy and Greeley, Colo. to take on Northern Colorado.
