COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mitch Somach improved to 2-1 on the season with a win Saturday morning at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Vikings fell to the Falcons in the dual by a score of 6-1.
 
Somach, playing as the Vikings No. 3, won the first set by a score of 6-3 but then dropped the second set by a score of 6-4 forcing a decisive third set. The Falcons had already locked up the dual win so the third set was played as a first to 10 point tiebreaker. Somach battled and took the tiebreaker by a score of 10-8.
 
Air Force took the doubles point to start the dual after sweeping the Vikings in doubles play. The Vikings No. 3 doubles duo of Zach Lubek and Nick Fracchia fell by a score of 8-4. Roman Margoulis and Abhinav Mishra, playing as the No. 2 doubles pair, fell 8-1.
 
Somach and Alec Marx battled at No. 1 doubles and had the match tied at 7-7 forcing a tiebreaker. They fell in the tiebreaker by a score of 8-6.
 
With the Falcons leading 1-0, the dual turned to singles competition. Margoulis took to the court as the Vikings' No. 1 singles player and battled through a tough first set but lost 7-5. He could not quite mount a comeback in the second set and lost 6-1.
 
Mishra, playing as No. 2, fell in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 while Marx and Lubek both fell by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Fracchia wrapped up competition for the Vikings and fell 6-4, 6-4.
 
The Vikings now head to Greeley, Colo. for a Sunday morning conference matchup with Northern Colorado.
