Bulldogs Take Down Vikings, 54-40

– The Portland State women's basketball team fell to the Bulldogs of Gonzaga University by a score of 54-40 Friday night at the Peter W. Stott Center. The Vikings led for most of the first half but the score was tied at the break. The Bulldogs got out to a quick start in the second half and never looked back.

Angela Misa led the way for the Vikings with a team-best 12 points and seven rebounds. Courtney VanBrocklin added 10 points in the game.

The Vikings (5-2 overall) got out to an early 4-0 lead with buckets by Mikaela Rivard and Allison Greene. After the Bulldogs tied the game at 4-4, the teams traded buckets before the Vikings took their largest lead of the game at 16-10 with 10:05 left in the half. Portland State scored 12 of its first 16 points in the paint.

Misa scored six points while recording four rebounds before getting into foul trouble with two fouls and sat out the rest of the half.

The Bulldogs (8-2) tied the game at 23-23 on a three pointer by Haiden Palmer with 45 seconds remaining in the first half as the game went into the break tied. Palmer scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Bulldogs on 10-of-18 shooting.

Gonzaga started the second half on a 14-4 run to take a 10-point lead at 37-27 just over 13 minutes remaining in the contest. The Bulldogs increased their lead to as much as 15 points in the second half and won the game by a final score of 54-40.

The Bulldogs outshot the Vikings 38.6-to-37.2 percent in the game and shot over 46 percent in the second half.

The Vikings will be back in action Sunday in Seattle, Wash. when they take on the Seattle University Redhawks. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.

NOTES: First time this season the score was tied at the half … Angela Misa led the Vikings in scoring for the first time this season with 12 points … Misa scored in double-digits for the third time this season … Sixth double-digit scoring game for Courtney VanBrocklin this season … Portland State scored 17 points in the second half, their lowest total of any half this season.
