Vikings Add State's Best Three-Point Shooter in Sara Barhoum

PORTLAND, Ore. — The floor at Viking Pavilion just got a little wider for the Portland State women's basketball team Friday as the Vikings added sharpshooter, state record holder and Clackamas High School product Sara Barhoum.

Barhoum, who played her freshman season at the University of Oregon, broke the state's single-season and career records for three-pointers as a senior. Both records came during the OSAA 6A state tournament where she helped lead Clackamas to the title game.

"Sara is a flamethrower from deep," Portland State head coach Karlie Burris said of Barhoum. "As a true three-point specialist, she'll play a major role in shaping our offensive identity. Her work ethic and approach to the game set her apart, and her length and range at the guard position allows her to immediately stretch the floor. With valuable experience at Oregon, she brings both skill and maturity to our program. We're excited to welcome her back to Portland."

Barhoum and Jazzy Davidson – the 2026 Big Ten Freshman of the Year at USC – combined for 61 of their team's 77 points in a 20-point upset win over top-seeded Jefferson in the semifinals. Barhoum finished with 25 points in the game, going 3-for-5 from three-point range and 10-for-10 from the line. Barhoum set the single-season state record for three-pointers during that win, breaking the mark former Louisville star and WNBA player Shoni Schimmel set at Franklin during the 2009-10 season. She then tied the career record that Bria Dixon set with Franklin and Benson from 2017-20 with four makes in the title game.

Clackamas fell in the championship to Tualatin – losing to Barhoum's future PSU teammates Jordyn Smith, Alex Padilla and Maaya Lucas – but Barhoum earned first-team all-tournament honors for her efforts.

Barhoum was also named to the all-state second team as a senior after honorable mention honors as a freshman and junior. She was part of a state title as a sophomore.

Barhoum appeared in 14 games for the Ducks this past season, averaging 4.6 minutes per game.

Barhoum's three-point shooting addresses one of the Vikings' biggest needs. The Vikings ranked last in the Big Sky for three-point percentage (.265) and makes per game (4.39) this past season. Barhoum changes that in an instant.
