Vikings Announce Record 32-Game Schedule for Second Year under Karlie Burris

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland State women's basketball program enters its second year under head coach Karlie Burris ready to climb up the Big Sky standings. The path towards that goal is set now, as the Vikings announced their full schedule for the 2026-27 season Wednesday.

A 32-game slate will see the Vikings play their longest regular season in program history. The Vikings have only played more than 32 games in a season five times, but all of those included deep postseason runs. In 1991-92, the Vikings played a program-record 34 games, going 31-3, but that included five games in the NCAA Division II tournament.

The longer regular season comes as the Vikings play in an expanded Big Sky Conference. The addition of Southern Utah and Utah Tech – to offset the loss of Sacramento State – will push the conference schedule to 20 games. All 11 Big Sky teams will now play a double round-robin schedule. The uneven number of teams means Northern Arizona will serve as the conference's "lone wolf" while Northern Colorado serves as the Vikings' travel partner.

Additionally, the 20-game conference schedule means Big Sky play will open the first week of December, as the Vikings play at Eastern Washington and Idaho on Dec. 3 and 5, respectively. After a break, conference play will resume over the same nine-week stretch as previous seasons between the end of December and end of February.

Non-conference play for the Vikings will bring its own challenges with 10 of 12 games coming against NCAA Division I opponents. Out of those 10 games, seven will be on the road, including five straight in November. The Vikings open the season at home, hosting Pepperdine on the first day of the season, Nov. 2. But they'll hit the road from there, playing at Boise State (Nov. 6), San Diego (Nov. 10), UC San Diego (Nov. 12), San Jose State (Nov. 15) and Portland (Nov. 18) over the next 16 days.

The Vikings will return home for two games over the week of Thanksgiving, hosting Cal State Fullerton the Tuesday of that week, Nov. 24, and UC Santa Barbara Saturday, Nov. 28. The conference opening week at Eastern Washington and Idaho follows, before the Vikings are back home for games against Western Oregon (Dec. 13) and Willamette (Dec. 15).

They'll wrap non-conference play with two games in Seattle before the holiday break, playing at Seattle U (Dec. 18) and Washington (Dec. 20).

Conference play resumes after the holidays with a four-game home stand starting on New Year's Eve against Montana State. The Vikings then host Montana (Jan. 2), Utah Tech (Jan. 7) and Southern Utah (Jan. 9), before going on the road for three straight at Weber State (Jan. 14), Idaho State (Jan. 16) and Northern Arizona (Jan. 21).

The Vikings return home for their first of two Monday night games in Big Sky play, as they host Northern Colorado on Jan. 25.

They'll remain home for games later that week against Idaho (Jan. 28) and Eastern Washington (Jan. 30). Those two games will start the second half of Big Sky play, which continues on the road the following week at Montana (Feb. 4) and Montana State (Feb. 6). Weber State and Idaho State come to Viking Pavilion on Feb. 11 and 13, respectively.

The Vikings close Big Sky play with three of four on the road, starting at Southern Utah (Feb. 18) and Utah Tech (Feb. 20). They'll play their last home game with the second of their two Monday night games, hosting Northern Arizona on Feb. 22. They'll then wrap the regular season at Northern Colorado on Feb. 27.

The expanded Big Sky Conference means an extra day of the conference tournament, which will now open March 5 with a first-round game between the No. 10 and 11 seeds. The winner will advance to play the No. 9 seed on March 6, with the tournament following the same format as past seasons from there. The championship game will be March 10.
