Los Angeles, CA
- A scoreless stretch of nearly seven minutes in the second half spelled Portland State's doom as the Vikings lost a road game at Loyola Marymount, 66-56.

Ashley Hamilton's 19 points and nine rebounds led five Lions in double figures. With the win, LMU evened its record at 4-4. Portland State dropped its fourth straight game after a season-opening win and is now 1-4.

Marcus Hall was one of the few bright spots for the Vikings, scoring a season-high 16 points off the bench, including four three-pointers.

Hall provided a first-half spark for the Vikings. PSU was down 14-8 early, then Hall reeled off 10 straight points for the Vikings. His three-pointer tied the game at 16-16 with 10:07 left in the half.

A Dre Winston Jr. driving basket at 8:02 finally gave the Vikings the lead at 20-18. PSU's advantage grew to 29-23, but the Lions scored the last seven points of the half to lead 30-29 at the break.

Leading 43-42 with 12:52 left, the Vikings went on a six-minute, 47-second scoreless drought. PSU was down 51-43 before Hall finally hit a three-pointer. But the Lions scored another seven in a row, for a 16-3 run and their largest lead at 58-46 with 4:30 to play.

PSU was never closer than seven points after that.

Hall entered the game averaging 2.7 points. But, he made 6-9 field goals and 4-7 three-pointers to lead the Vikings. Winston Jr. scored 14 points, making 5-8 from the field.

The Lions did a good job inside on Renado Parker with double- and triple-teams. Parker was held to 3-13 from the field and seven points. Parker led the Vikings with six rebounds.

Both teams shot 41% from the field. The difference in scoring came at the line, with LMU making 16-18 to just 5-9 for the Vikings. PSU was outrebounded 41-27, and committed 11 turnovers in the second half.

"The (Lions) were really good on the boards," said Viking Coach Tyler Geving, "We had 11 turnovers in the second half, and they just killed us on the offensive glass all night long. They were a good team and aggressive.

"I liked our effort though. We came in and competed and just fell short. I can't fault our effort tonight."

GAME NOTES: Portland State was issued a technical foul prior to the opening tip for having an incorrect jersey number. The Lions converted both free throws and led 2-0 at tip-off… Coach Tyler Geving started Gary Winston at point guard in place of Lateef McMullan. It marked the first time in McMullan's 37-game career at PSU that he did not start. Both Winston and McMullan had four assists in the game for the Vikings… the Vikings are off for finals week and return to action on Dec. 12 when they host Oregon State at the Stott Center. Tip-off is 7:35 p.m. as the game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Northwest. It will also air on Freedom 970 AM and www.freedom970.com.
